4 simple ideas to make this Valentine’s day special <3

Everyone has a different emotion when they think of “Valentine’s Day.”

Honestly, I used to dread February 14th – mainly because I usually didn’t have a Valentine to share the day with. At the time, I was quite bitter, but looking back, I was missing the bigger picture. Just because I didn’t have a boyfriend at the time didn’t mean I couldn’t celebrate and make the most of the day.

Valentine’s day is a day to SPREAD LOVE! If you let it, it can act as a great reminder to show compassion and kindess to everyone around you!

However, it can be stressful trying to come up with something to do on Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for some simple ideas to make the most of this Holiday – then you’ve come to the right place!

Check out my 4 ideas below on how to spend this Valentine’s day!

Don’t miss the BONUS idea at the end of the post!

1) Cook Together

This is one of my favorite date ideas. It is so SIMPLE, yet you can make it so much FUN!

Choose one of your favorite recipes – or opt for trying something new! Gather all of your ingredients, review the recipe together, and jump right in.

While cooking together, you are giving your full attention to that time and working with one another.

Talk, play music, sing into a wooden spoon, dance playfully, dance slowly, and just enjoy each others company.

Have fun with it!

2) Designate time for each other

Life gets busy, and sometimes we overlook the importance of spending quality time with those we love.

This Valentine’s Day, set aside time dedicated to you and your significant other.

Maybe this is after the kids go to bed, or maybe you agree that you’ll stop working and shutdown the computers at 6pm to dedicate your attention to each other for the rest of the night. Maybe you use the time to have meaningful conversations or to snuggle up and watch a movie – whatever it may be – dedicate that time to be fully present with each other.

If you don’t have a significant other, dedicate time to those you love, and take time for yourself.

Self-love is so important. Let today be a reminder of that!

3) Share your feelings and appreciation

You may be someone who considers this a “Hallmark Holiday,” but I am going to challenge you to look at February 14th differently. I challenge you to use this day as a reminder to tell those you love how much they mean to you.

It is very important to tell your significant other that you appreciate them. It allows you both to be vulnerable and understanding of one another, while showing the other that you acknowledge them and are thankful for them and all that they do.

This doesn’t just apply to your significant others, though. Use Valentine’s Day as a day to focus on showing love and appreciation to everyone around you. A simple act of showing kindness or spreading love that can mean so much.

4) Celebrate Galentine’s Day

A few years back, my single girlfriends and I decided that being single wasn’t going to stop us from celebrating Valentine’s Day. Instead, we opted for a gal’s night out!

This is a super cute and fun idea because, come on, who doesn’t want another reason to get together with the girls for a ladies night? Am I right, or am I right?!

So call up your girlfriends, make a reservation at happy hour, or have the girls over for drinks and apps, and catch up with your besties!

Another idea that I love is a Ladies Valentine’s Day Brunch! I was invited to my first this past weekend, and it was so much fun. The host had all the girls over on a Sunday morning and served adorable apple rose pastries, quiche, mimosas, and more. We decorated cookies and spent time catching up with one another.

With this idea, you can get as creative as you want. Remember, it doesn’t have to be anything over the top or crazy – the purpose is to spend quality time with your girlfriends – its that simple 🙂

BONUS IDEA: Try having fun with Valentine’s day. Leave you significant other notes to find throughout the day, or send them on a scavenger hunt with clues hidden around the house. This is something playful and fun that will most definitely bring a smile to your significant other’s face. They will love knowing you put thought into the sweet gesture.
